If you honestly believe that a total nerf of all farming will cause a loss of only 2% of the playerbase, I don't think we have anything more to discuss..
They aren't talking about nerfing a single skill with this update. They're talking multiples. That's not going to piss anyone off is it?
The way you're telling it, 60% more people will buy GW2 simply because a single skill in GW1 was nerfed. Again, naive.

I lol'd at that.
It's more the other way around, 60% will leave while they will gain 2% at best maybe and I'll explain why.
There's no point in playing areas balanced again because most vets already played everything balanced last 4 years. I tried it last weeks, played a couple of elite areas balanced again with some friends. It was fun for a couple of runs, but replay value is low and the rewards suck.
Farming is part of the PvE endgame, if you take that away or make it really lame, then there's not much left as there's a big part of the PvE playberbase that will never move to PvP. I rather have the purists leave or make the move to PvP as it should be if you're interested in balance.
Don't give in to the whiners ANet and rethink possible changes to farm builds! I agree speedclears are not the way it was intended, but there are other ways to prevent that.
Even if you made up your mind and will nerf the builds, what are you offering instead to replace this endgame activity? New content? Don't think so.

At this point is all about having as fun as possible with the old content that is and many players who have done everything else still do find some amusement in more challenging solo/duo/sc farming.

Who is it overpowered for? Those who use it, instead of using a different build :P If one trained monkey (600 requires not much more) can walk people through hardmode stuff, i think that is slightly overpowered at least. Have you tried Kathandrax, CoF, Ooze Pit and the likes with a normal decent team? I have, and i can tell you i had to work a lot harder for it, despite the 7 other humans working to make it as well. This is not about 'some people filling their storage' as it was with early 55 runs, this is what hits everyone. We're talking mass inflation. Anything that drops from Murakais chest is merch-food, just because it's overfarmed.
It's not just the runners who get rich, (although they get the biggest share) it's everyone. Mass inflation, if you want. The ecto now had a big hit, but the gold standard hasn't seen anything yet. This means for example that rare minis will only become more expensive, ectos and other rare materials will go up in price, and ah well... basic economy. True, we're just trying to have fun with an old game, but a healthy economy makes it last a bit longer. If you can't 600 (or SF, or whateverfarm) any more, you can either quit, or play another build. 55 still isn't nerfed, it's just overshadowed by the newer stuff. (ok, for those picky ones, it is nerfed, by the lootscaling things... but so is everything)

Will other farming builds arise? Yes obviously. But that doesn't mean ANet shouldn't be trying to slow down things a bit, or at least keep the game *playable* in elite areas for non farming professions.
Seriously it is a pain to enter ToA as a Mesmer or whatever non farming profession and only see RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing codes likes LFG T1, MT1, MT2, whatever thing you have to go to PvXwiki and check WTF is it all about.
Not all times guildies are available, so pugs would be the way to go, except it is hard to pug with speed clears taking over everything. I don't really care if people farm until their eyes bleed (it actually helps more casual people like me in raising some items' availability), nor I envy anyone's riches, I just want to be able to properly find a team whenever I want to PLAY THE GAME in a balanced team.
I play Monk and do I want to see 600/Smite nerfed too. I have an Assassin that I enjoy playing as a *melee profession* and he doesn't even have Shadow Form atm.

But PLEASE do not make 600/smite unusable!! That's one of the few thing we long-time players have left that still can be fun and nice to do together with a friend.
Who cares anyway if some people makes money? It's still about having fun and enjoying the game no? Sure, teaming up in full teams doing dungeons and missions is fun and was very fun, a few years ago... But in this state of the game when many players have done all content multiple times it's not that tempting to go back to balanced team play again.
There must be some solo/duo farming options for core players, otherwise all of them will depart.
|
problem is, none of them did it balanced. they did it with some crappy&mindless 3 hero build and filled up with hench while sitting back and drinking beer, none of them did it for fun, only for their epeen(=titles).. ever tried to do something with a full team? its fun. people argue and they say jokes THE CHARACTERS MOVE AROUND instead of standing around you all the time and casting shit while mobs go boom. yes the rewards are shit, guess why? because people overfarmed it with 600/smite and shadow form...

We've been through this before.
This doesn't work as a reason for trashing stuff because trashing things will not provide the results you want.

Also not a good reason to leave everything as it is and give up.
Problem is, some abuses should never have existed in the first place.

I am not arguing that.
I am just saying that people that are screaming for a nerf so that they can run their non-farming builds and party with farmers are in for a nasty surprise. They should REALLY think twice about what they actually want.

yes, lots of things gotta be fixed in pve in order for it to be playable again like removing EVERY consumable, pve skill, title effect and pve versions of skills removed and set to pvp versions. but this is the way to start. nerfing the biggest crap around.

+1. Rework all "things that need to be fixed" or none is not and never was a valid reason for doing nothing.

Wouldn't a better idea to remove all the overpower crap that NPC's have in game, like enhanced energy regen, no level cap, massively boosted health values, double damage, 1/2 duration hexes and conditions, Zero Death penalty, Monster skills (twisting jaws anyone), stupidly overpowered foes, like Thorn wolves doing 270+ damage with a skill that's supposed only supposed to do 80 max.
If Anet do that, then you can think about removing cons, and pve skills..

The problem is that the selective balance you are advocating brought us to the state we have now. And it will continue bringing us to similar situations.

There's nothing to argue then.
Some skills ARE being reworked (and not trashed), so we have a clear statement about the position of Anet about some abuses. If people playing the game are gonna be pissed off for various reasons, that's little to do with the balance update, which IS coming anyway.

False. If you dont do selective balance then you have to balance ENTIRE game all at once. As you can see , they didnt rework a so obvious broken skill combo till now ( early this year , i guess update comes in feb ? ) so asking for non selective balance is pointless and useless.
